Conununity Reporter TUESDAY, MAY 28,1991 20C Per ( ops Bill Long and Nancy Mahler Carriage Driving Clinic Held Recently in Tryon the C.C.C. held a Carriage Driving Clinic instructed by world champion whip Bill Long. Bill has shown and evented a four horse team at world driving competitions in the combined driving events. This includes driving a four horse team to dressage, thru a timed obstacle course, and over a cross country marathon course. Bill has become a friend of Prince Phillip of England who also competes with a team. At the Royal Windsor Show, Bill was the only competitor per mitted to use the prince's pri vate driving facilities. Recently he elected to leave the world competition circuit and work toward establishing his own training stable. This new venture includes instructional clinics. In Tryon, Bill provided 20 hours of per sonal instruction over a three day period. Each student learned new and exciting things about their horse and them selves. As an instructor, Bill has the ability and enthusiasm to make his clinics exceptional. Tlic clinic was held at FENCE which provided its usual impressive facilities. A Carolina Carriage Club pitch-in dinner was held the second day of the clinic and many members met Bill and his wife Linda. Linda assists Bill and they are a good "pair". One of the CCC's most enthusiastic participaants was Nancy Mahler. Nancy is shown driving her horse Sailor thru a typical marathon hazard with Bill instructing as she drives, the clinic was organized by Dale Govus, V.P. of the CCC on very short notice and was filled to capacity.
